Aanandha Yoga - Ch-4c

Now let us look at it from the scientific point of view. There is a very common word which is used very often called as ‘Destiny’. Some believe in it and some are opposed to it tooth and nail.

Once, a very famous Scientist wanted to make an experiment with this. He took the example of tossing a coin. It is a very common practice in cricket matches to toss a coin to find out who is to bat or bowl first. The Scientist asked a question. Can the result of tossing of a coin be predicted or not. Scientifically speaking, he said that it can be predicted, provided all the conditions for tossing are standardised. First, the chosen coin should be evenly balanced. Then, the finger that is tossing the coin gives varying degrees of pressure and hence has to be replaced by a mechanical tossing device, which will have an even tossing pressure. Other variable parameters like temparature, pressure etc., has to be maintained at a same level. When all these are done then the result of the toss of the coin can be predicted.

Can the same principle be applied to the destiny in the life of people also? This is probably a million dollar question.

As far as the tossing of the coin is concerned, the variables are very less and probably can be controlled. But the variables in the lives of people are very vast and countless. And while some of these variables can be controlled, a vast number of them are not within control. But whatever are the number of variables that are controllable are very much in our hands.

Yes, the variables around each and every person, is so vast. Each and every variable will make an impact on the person’s life. But whatever variable is within the reach of our control, can be certainly controlled, if we have the knowledge and will power to control it.

We can control the tossing of a coin, by mechanising the tossing mechanism. Similarly, by making our life more systematic, we can certainly control some of the variables around us. By doing so, we can also face the miseries in our life more confidently, without being affected much by it. If we have to make our life systematic, then we have to know about ‘Ashtaanga Yoga’ and practice it and finally make it a way of our life system.
